Celebrating the Olympics

Troops 28 and 150 celebrated the beginning of the 2010 Winter Olympics with an overnight pj party.  The Juniors invited the Brownies and  planned on having everyone bring a pair of pajamas to donate to Beloit  for children that arrive at the resident facilities without pj's.  We  collected many pairs of pj's to deliver to them.

We started by learning about the original Olympic games celebrated in  Greece thousands of years ago and then moved to the modern games.   Over the course of the evening, the girls competed in the Winter   Olympics Quiz Bowl, earning Gold, Silver and Bronze bowls for their  teams: The Stinky Socks, The Fuzzy Green Microwave Ovens, and The  Giant Purple Chickens.  They learned a LOT about the various sports in  the Winter Olympics--the sports themselves, the terminology, the  equipment used and some of the athletes.   Don't be surprised if you  see some of them on the US Curling Team!

We watched the Opening Ceremony, cheering for the US and comparing the  Opening Ceremony uniforms the girls designed to the ones actually worn  by the athletes.  We liked the moose on the hats!  Eventually there  was a bit of sleeping.  Breakfast in the morning included our own  version of Olympic Rings: donuts!  Of course the beautiful colors left  their marks on the girls' faces and teeth!

Too bad the Winter Olympics only happen every  four years!
