Outdoor Survival Skill
Ames-Gilbert Girl Scouts, September 2010

On a rainy day in late September, Girl Scouts from all levels gathered in Ames at Moore Park to learn about outdoor survival skills. The weather was definitely wet and COLD, but all the better to learn about outdoor survival... right?!

The event was organized by Melissa Murray and Sue Winer, with members of the ISU ROTC doing the actual training. The girls moved through three stations to learn about first aid, orienteering, and constructing outdoor shelter. The ROTC members were well prepared with displays, demonstrations, hands-on activities, and treats for correct answers to quiz questions... they really kept things fun!

Despite the weather, everyone had a blast and the ROTC members did a FABULOUS job -- can't wait until next year to do it all again!!
