Twenty things to bring or do:
- Either a change of sturdy shoes, or boots. No open-toed shoes.
- Two extra pairs of dry socks
- Poncho or raincoat
- Jacket or heavy sweater (avoid nylon jackets or windbreakers since sparks from a camp fire can easily melt the nylon, causing painful burns)
- Gloves or mittens for cold Fall, Winter or Spring mornings
- Hat
- A change of clothes, including at least one pair of long pants and layers of shirts (T-shirts and sweat shirt for example)
- Something to sleep in (pajamas, sweats, etc.)
- Hair ties if hair is long
- Hair brush, tooth brush, face cloth, small towel, etc.
- Plastic or metal plate, bowl, cup. Silverware. Windbag to keep it in if you have it.
- Water bottle.
- Insect repellent and sun screen
- Sleeping bag or bedroll
- Pillow and/or air mattress if desired
- Flashlight (optional)
- Book or card game if desired
- IMPORTANT: Any medication should be in a plastic bag with the girl’s name and instructions. This should be handed to a leader before we leave.
- Permission slip and any fee if you haven’t already handed it in.
- Make sure that the leaders know how to contact each parent if the necessity arises. Make sure that each parent knows how to contact the troop. Exchange cell phone numbers!
Things to avoid bringing:
- Electronic gadgets or games, radios, etc.
- Makeup, nail polish, hair curlers, etc.
- Snacks or extra food (raccoons clawing their way into tents and into girl’s bags are a definite problem).
